Memememe

Big A Little a has asked all of us in the "kidlitosphere" to participate in this Children's Book Meme

1. One book that changed your life?

I credit Lloyd Alexander's "Prydain" books, as well as other fantasy, for giving my messed-up childhood a moral compass.

2. One book you have read more than once?

All of'em! Well, not so much anymore. I'm so busy trying to squeeze in all the new books now. But think of pretty much any children's book published before 1983 and I've probably read and reread it.

3. One book you would want on a desert island?

Mmmm... A Little Princess, to try and help me keep an optimistic attitude. Though I suppose something like Robinson Crusoe would be a lot more useful.

4. One book that made you laugh?

The Alfred G. Graebner Memorial High School Handbook of Rules and Regulations by Ellen Conford.

5. One book that made you cry?

A Wrinkle in Time by Madeline L'Engle

6. One book you wish had been written?

I like Kelly's answer to this - a sequel to The Secret Language would be awesome! Or just another book by Nordstrom. It's tragic that she only wrote the one.

(One second thought, be careful what you wish for. Look what happened when Zilpha Keatley Snyder wrote a sequel to The Egypt Game. Hey, now there's a book I wish had never been written!)

7. One book you wish had never been written?

The horrific, claustrophobia-inducing Weirdstone of Brisingamen by Alan Garner. At any rate, I wish I had never read it.

8. One book you are currently reading?

I usually read one book at a time and the current one is a) not a children's book and b) so bad, so far, I'm not sure I'm going to continue reading it. (Baby Proof, if you must know.) I have my eye on Vivian Vande Velde's All Hallow's Eve next.

9. One book you have been meaning to read?

As soon as I can get the library to provide it, I'm dying to read King Dork.

10. Now tag five people:

Kelly already tagged the entire kidlitosphere! But if by any chance, anyone is reading from outside that rarified world - say from the "smart bitches" blogs - please join in. Only keep it limited to kid's books, that'll be more fun. :-)

Thanks for playing, Wendy! I'm glad I missed the sequel to "The Egypt Game" (which I loved!)

I just remember another book that never should have been written: "Shadowmancer," by G.P. Taylor. And, its sequel/s

Entirely OT:

is this the Rosemary Wells bunny planet for "far beyond the moon and stars / twenty light years south of mars / spins the gentle bunny planet / and the bunny queen is Janet."

We used to read those books to our kids and I'd get snuffly when I got to singing that part about the planet being there all along.

and now I'm reading Inkspell and the Samarkand Amulet to those same boys.

sigh. I sort of miss Max and Ruby and "I don't care" Pierre.
